Why I'm Spending Time Not Upgrading Wordpress0 Comments
By Belsnickle2013-07-09

For the most part this site is used to demo existing infrastructures for the web that means there's a basic wikimedia install(zgarah.com/w) a basic wordpress install(with some minor customizations, and it's actually where I blog most stuff) a basic Joomla and Drupal install, a PHPBB3 forum(once three this one is still sorta used for a game group) and a Blogger implementation.

While it's nice to have upgraded versions of these I often set most of them back to a default form when I'm done with them because they stop serving the purpose of test environment when they're not. You can see some of the more interesting things that I've done with them if you jump around this site or other sites, like wythia where this stuff gets implemented in it's final forms (though you may notice a few things on this site index itself that I've done, mostly for the purpose of testing styles). I may eventually get around to adding a gallary form to this site itself but since I don't actually get paid for my work here it frequently winds up on the back burner while I am getting paid.

This Blog and Blogger3 Comments

A very few of you nonexistent readers may be aware of the fact that I once had a blogspot account. Well now that's owned by google and is called Blogger. It also now has functionality to be able to redirect to sites. You can find it over at the Blogger subdomain I have now set up while I continue to work on this.

I Find Myself Distracted0 Comments

Time on the personal computers these days is often split between the web browser and, with increasingly less focus, on native applications. In recent years this has led to a shift in development approach to the Graphical User Interface. When something doesn't look right or feel right it's obvious, particularly when there are so many distinct and varied stylistic approaches to the same thing.

Google has made leaps and bounds in the flow and comfort of the web browser interface with Chrome but there's still quite a bit left to be desired. Pain points like the inability to hide interface elements, a non-transparent windows bar, and most prominently the lack of supported deskbands for Windows 7.

The two most prominent uses of deskbands seem to be the old Windows Media Player and Itunes. Deskband provides support for an Address bar that loads the default browser. When enabled this functionality makes it increasingly mind boggling that minimalists like the Chromium development team doing significantly more to exploit this. The Windows Taskbar already provides a Bookmark like function with the Links toolbar. Also provided is access to desktop menus through the Desktop toolbar, with small icons and bound to the top of the screen all it would take is a focus based address bar to replace the Windows default and the ability to hide Chrome's native address bar.

As is always the case I've been working on this bit by bit over the course of the two months since my last update. Most of what has been going on has been back-end stuff you can't visibly see without poster level access. In other words you have to be me.

The image included is an example of what it looks like, there shouldn't be any issues with the inclusion of the image but there might be. I need to write up some new ways to do stuff on this side to simplify this set up as it's currently a major pain to get articles done. Eventually it will get there, there's not much more major work to get done. Implementation of a comment system, an editing system, and a number of small tweaks for a more pleasurable editing experience.

Now all I need are things worth writing about and the will to do the deed.

This is currently for me to test out the implementation of this while I listen to The Letter Black, who have a ridiculously hot lead singer btw. The music isn't bad either. But that's not what this is about, it's about me rambling to get actual content here.
